22nd August44 B24H 42-95224 "Lonely Heart" 

"Lonely Heart" was involved in a mid-air collision with the Group's P-47 "Little Pete" flown by Lt. Col. Walter Smith over Splasher#6. Nose-gunner was killed while Col. Smith bailed out as his aircraft crashed at Thorpe Abbot. The incident ocurred while on a practice mission while "Lonely Heart" was flown by the 791st Lt. John Rice crew with Major Albert Wallace (C.O. of the 791st) also on board performing a check-ride.
