489th to 467th "Saga"
Our crew was originally assigned to the 489th BG, 846th Sqdn at Halesworth. There we flew our first nine missions. On 5 Nov.1944, on a mission to Karlsruhe, the pilot was forced to land at an advanced U.S. fighter base near Gosselles, Belgium with severe battle damaged.
The 489th BG had not received word that the crew was safe and we were declared MIA. Ten days later, upon return to our base, we learned that the 489th BG had orders to return to the U.S. assigned to B-29 training, but our crew was not included in the orders to return. Our remain ing 26 missions were flown with the 467th BG, 788th Sqdn at Rackheath.
