Mission Narrative
In the second day of 'Operation Cover', the 8th AF had two missions, both designated mission #388, to attack coastal defenses in the Pas de Calais, France area. The first raid consisted of 362 bombers. In the second raid, 206 bombers attack the same targets hit in the morning. The 467th took part in the second raid and attacked the coastal gun battery at Berck sur Mer.
The 467th BG led the 2nd BD and 96th CBW on this mission. Thirty-six aircraft from the Group, each carrying 12x500lb bombs, started their takeoff at 1200. the aircraft were divided into three squadrons. 13 in the first, 11 in the second and 10 in the third. The Command Pilots, Major Wallace and Capt Doenges, led the formation in PFF equipped aircraft (supplied by the 44th BG). While the late takeoff time gave "insufficient" time for proper assembly, the formation leaving the English coast was in good order. All aircraft attacked the target, however, two aircraft attacked with other Groups. 42-95162 'Perils of Pauline', flown by Lt Dickinson with crew #067-R0 of the 790th BS, attacked with the 446th BG. 41-29386 'Gerocko, flown by Lt Keaton with crew #082-R0 of the 791st BS, attcked with the 93rd BG.
The target was bombed by PFF through 10/10 cloud cover. The results were unobserved.
No flak or enemy fighters were encountered. There were no aircraft losses or crew casualties.
