Mission Narrative
Mission #308 for the 8th AF saw 772 bombers dispatched to primarily bomb aviation targets in Germany. Of the 249 B24's sent by the 2nd BD, the 467th was part of a force of 117 that bombed the airfield at Paderborn, Germany.
Twenty-seven aircraft of the 467th BG took off, starting at 0730. All ships reached and attacked the target, dropping a mixture of 100 lb general purpose bombs and 160 lb incendiary bombs.
The first squadron was led by Major Smith, who flew with Lt. Moore on 41-29408 'Valiant Lady' with crew #011-R0 of the 788th BS. Lt Werdung’s ship (41-29373 'Flak Magnet/The Monster' with crew #003-R0 of the 788th BS) was in the position of deputy lead, with Lt Secaffico as command pilot. Capt Holdrege led the second squadron with Lt Schott flying 42-52571 'Snooper' and crew #051-R0 of the 790th BS. Capt Neitzel flew deputy lead of the second squadron with Lt Campbell on 42-52497 'Osage Express' with crew #053-R0 of the 790th BS.
Results of the bombing were fair. A few bombs dropped within 1000ft of the MPI, with the concentration between 1000 and 2500 feet short of the MPI.
Meager flak and no fighters were encountered and all aircraft returned safely to their base.
