Mission Narrative
The 8th AF sent a large force of 842 bombers to bomb V-weapon sites in France. The 467th BG aircraft were a part of 212 bombers from the 2nd BD that attacked sites in the Pas-De-Calais area.
Fourteen aircraft took off starting at 1600. All of these ships approached the target, but no bombs were dropped, due to damage inflicted on the lead ship between the IP and the target. Each aircraft carried 8x1000 lb general purpose bombs, and with the exception of the lead ship, which jettisoned its bombs in the Channel, all planes brought their bombs back.
Capt. Doenges led the formation in Lt Volk’s ship (42-52350 'Volks Virgin Vultures' with crew #030-R0 of the 789th Sq). Sadly, the co-pilot from Volk’s crew was killed by flak that hit Lt. Volks ship in the target area. Since the command pilot was aboard the ship, and it is believed the co-pilot was occupying the tail-gunner position.
No enemy aircraft opposition, but intense accurate flak was encountered.
