Mission Narrative
25th April 45: Group Mission #221 (Last 8th AF & 467th BG Mission of WWII in the ETO).

8th AF Mission #968: 584 Bombers dispatched to airfields, and rail targets in SE Germany and Czechoslovakia. 2 AD dispatched 282 aircraft to marshaling yards at Salzburg, Bad Reichenhall, Hallen, and Electric Transformer at Traunstein. The 467th and 466th were assigned the target at Traunstein with 56 effective.

The 467th was positioned high left in three squadrons made up of 27 aircraft. On the bomb run it was reported that the third squadron of the 466th almost slid underneath at "bombs away". The lead aircraft C-1 also behaved erratically during the 40 seconds before bombs away pulling the aircraft to the left.

Take-off commenced at 0610 hours, assembly and planned route went smoothly and on time with the Group bombing visually from 21,500 in excellent weather.

Captain Veverka led the Lead and First Squadron flying with Captain Elliott Crew #095-R1 of the 791st, aboard 44-49591. Deputy Lead was flown by Lt Holum with Crew #088-R2 of the 791st BS in 44-50250 'School Daze'. Second Squadron was led by Lt. McCabe with crew #081-R4 of the 791st BS in 44-50156, while Captain Rothchild led the third squadron with Lt. Wheelock and crew #082- R4 of the 791st BS aboard 42-50949.

All 27 successfully attacked the target visually with SAVs showing main patterns obscured by smoke but fair to very good bombing indicated.

All 27 returned safely to Rackheath with no damage or loss and fighter support reported as good.
