Mission Narrative
8th AF mission #319 dispatched 589 bombers to hit targets in Germany. The 2nd BD sent 238 B-24's to attack the airfield at Pederborn.

Twenty-eight aircraft from the Group took off starting at 0630. None of these attacked Paderborn, due to overcast weather conditions. Twenty-four ships dropped 240x500 lb general purpose bombs on the Minden/Osnabruk area (the secondary target). One aircraft (41-29375 'Lil Peach') jettisoned in the Channel after a malfunction with it's bomb bay doors. Two others (42-52506 and 42-52424 'Jack the Ripper') attached themselves to other groups but failed to release their bombs and one other (42-52623 'Wabbit') failed to release bombs. All three brought all bombs back to base.

The group was lead by Major Smith, who flew with Lt. Monefeldt flying 42-52525 'Six Bits' with crew #032-R0 from the 789th BS. Lt. Lominack  flew deputy lead on 41-29363 with crew #028-R0 also from the 789th BS. Leading the second squadron, Major Wallace flew with Lt. Hanna on 41-29450 'Seilers Beavers' with crew #076-R0 from the 791st BS, and Lt. Swearingen, on 41-29393 'Shoo Shoo Baby' with crew #078-R0, flew deputy lead.

No enemy aircraft was encountered, but flak caused some damage to more than half of the planes and caused injuries to three crew members. The results could not be recorded, due to weather conditions.
