Mission Narrative
8th AF Mission #920: 1348 bombers dispatched to synthetic oil plants, and munitions plants, also a tank factory at Brunswick. The 2AD were assigned to target an oil refinery and munitions plant with the 96CBW and other groups assigned to bomb visually on a tank factory at Brunswick.

The 467th led both the Wing and Division dispatching 29 ships in three squadrons.

The lead crews departed Rackheath at 0545hours.

Leading the Wing and Division was Lt Col Smith with Capt Elliott Crew#095-R1 aboard 44-50325, deputy lead was Lt Summers with Lt Patton Crew#087-R6 aboard 44-48860. Second squadron was led by Capt Ververka with Lt McCabe Crew#081-R4 aboard "Lucky 'Leven" 44-48820 with third squadron led by Lt Watson Crew#085-R2 aboard 44-49340

Group and Wing assemblies were good and the briefed route on penetration was followed closely. The 789th Lt Close Crew#033-R1 made an early return due to a mechanical issue leaving the 467th with 28 attacking ships. At the target cloud was 10/10ths forcing all 2AD Groups to attack the secondary target of the Brunswick marshalling yards. This was made by H2X from 22,500ft and the results unobserved due cloud cover. Moderate inaccurate flak was encountered in the target area. Two Me-262s and a FW-190 were observed underneath the formations in the target area, but no attacks were made.

All 28 Group ships returned to Rackheath with no loss or damage. Fighter support was good to excellent.
